Before I started Parenzano Cosmetics in my beach bungalow in 2005, I was a total beauty addict. I went into stores such as Whole Foods and other high-end health foods stores on a daily basis and became increasingly frustrated with what was available in terms of colored cosmetics. What made it worse was that my background had been with high-end department stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Macys, Nordstrom’s, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman etc. I had worked for a myriad of cosmetic companies beginning in the 80’s such as Yves Saint Laurent, Estee Lauder, Lancôme, Stila, and Bobbi Brown etc. Thus I was quite familiar with fashion forward high-end cosmetics. Little did I know then what I know now, that often times these high end brands contain extremely questionable ingredients.

I decided right then and there that it was time to change that paradigm. I chose lip gloss as a starting point was due to the fact that women will ingest any where from six to sixteen pounds of lip product over the course of her life time. After researching the main ingredient in almost all lip glosses within the country I determined that we could certainly do better. The culprit is polybuten and it is in almost all mainstream brands as the first ingredient. After researching this particular ingredient I determined that it was a plasticizing agent and that it has ties to formaldehyde. I replaced polybuten with a very high grade of coconut oil, which is a great non-irritating emulsifier with anti microbial and moisturizing properties. I then set out to create the most user-friendly and gorgeous shades of eye shadow, crème blush and liners called The Tropical Moon Collection. All of our products are 100 % free of parabens, petro-chemicals, phthalates, sulfates, synthetic fragrance, fragrance maskers, and F D and C colors.

We don’t just stop at the formulas - all of our packaging can be recycled. We like to say we’re doing the “leg work” to help all of us minimize our carbon footprints.
